The regulations under the Stamp Fee Act 1875 published in the New Zealand Gazette 24th December 1875 read:
"1. Duties, fees, fines and penalties shall be collected by stamps...in all the offices of the Court of Appeal and of the Supreme Court in all its jurisdictions"
On 5th December 1878 this was extended to include Magistrate Courts.
Printed from electrotype plates of 240 stamps in 4 panes of 60. Although the series ranged from 1/- to £10, it is apparent that one plate served for the whole set with the various value inscriptions printed from ordinary type, in the same way as the "Duty" stamps of 1867.
Paper used was watermarked single-lined NZ and Start, and perforations were by single line gauging 12½ and nearly 12, and a comb machine gauging 12x11½.

1/- Green & carmine
2/- Red & Blue
3/- Violet & Blue-green
5/- Pink & Blue
6/- Blue & brown
10/- Brown & Blue
20/- Yellow & Blue
£1 Yellow & Blue
£3 Bistre-brown & Blue
£5 Pale Ultramarine & Red
£10 Deep brown & Blue
