The 1935 Pictorials
A joint meeting with the Wellington and Hutt Valley Philatelic Societies
The Te Papa meeting on 24 August will feature the 1935 Pictorials – the second of the pictorial definitive issues of New Zealand. It is now 80 years since they were placed on sale, and this evening will be a special recognition of this anniversary. There are many interesting items in the Te Papa archives and the selected material will provide for an interesting and informative presentation. Keynote speakers are Geoff Rickards, Patrick Brownsey, Brian Vincent and Herb Cowley. The display will cover the design competition, original artwork, dies, plates and proofs as well as postal stationery and the booklets. The 5d Swordfish stamp will be featured as indicative of the range of items that can be covered in a collection of this issue. Overseas use of these Pictorials will be outlined.
The meeting will be held at Te Papa, 169 Tory Street, Wellington (NOT at the Cable Street building). Entry is through the door at the back of building, via the stairs on the left hand side (the street entrance at the right of the building is inaccessable after hours). Street parking is available in the vicinity. Please arrive between 7.15 and 7.30pm when the door will be manned. For help, ring 029 7706315.
